Rutgers Wrestlers Compete in NCAA Wrestling Championships

ST. LOUIS, MO. - Two members of the Rutgers wrestling team, under the guidance of first-year head coach Scott Goodale, competed in the NCAA Wrestling Championships in St. Louis, Mo., on Thursday, March 20. Redshirt senior Steve Adamcsik (Chester, N.J.) was eliminated from the tournament after he dropped two bouts on the first day of action. Junior Lamar Brown (Red Bank, N.J.) lost his first match 2-1, but won in wrestlebacks and will compete on Friday, March 21.
Adamcsik opened the tournament against No. 1 seed Chad Mendes of Cal Poly, falling by way of pin. The redshirt senior then dropped a 10-3 decision to Drew Lashaway of Kent State in the wrestlebacks, ending his season. Adamcsik was a remarkable 27-10 in 2007-08 and finished his career at RU with a record of 79-37.
Brown also lost his first bout, falling 2-1 to the No. 11 seed Timothy Morrison of Rider. After receiving a bye in his first bout in the consolation bracket, Brown defeated Jacob Bryce of North Dakota State 11-5 to stay alive in the tournament. The junior will face Oregon State's Kyle Bressler on Friday morning. Bressler reached the second round before getting pinned by top seed Joshua Glenn of American.
