Rutgers Gymnastics Places Eighth At EAGL Championships

MORGANTOWN, W. Va. - The Rutgers women's gymnastics team placed eighth with a score of 189.025 at the 2008 East Atlantic Gymnastics League Championships on Saturday at WVU Coliseum on the campus of West Virginia University.
The strong field in the eight-team tournament featured West Virginia winning the team title with a score of 196.050. NC State scored a 195.475 for second place, New Hampshire was third (194.550), North Carolina was fourth (193.950), Maryland scored 193.375 for fifth, Pittsburgh placed sixth (193.175), George Washington was seventh (192.975).
The Scarlet Knights, who have been without the services of top all-around competitor, Laura Sevarino (Cheshire, Conn.) and standout bars competitor, Prishani Seebadri (Wenonah, N.J.) for the past month due to injury, scored a 47.875 in the floor exercise, their second highest total in the event this season. Last week, RU posted a 47.975 on the floor at Penn State.
Junior Latara Northcutt (Snellville, Ga.) led RU in the vault with a 9.650 to finish 34th, while freshman Kiah Banfield (Newbury Park, Calif.) was right behind her teammate with a 9.600 to place 37th.
Senior Stephanie Pannick (Archbald., Pa) tied for 26th overall on bars with a score of 9.625, while Northcutt posted a score of 9.600 in the event to tie for 30th.
Pannick also led the Scarlet Knights on the balance beam with a score of 9.625 to tie for 25th. Senior Tiffany Schramm (Orange County, Calif.) tied for 29th with a score of 9.600.
Banfield scored a career-high 9.725 on the floor exercise to tie for 28th in the event, Northcutt posted a 9.700 for the second straight week to tie her season-high. She tied for 33rd.
Northcutt placed 10th out of 16 competitors in the all-around with a score of 38.500.
The Scarlet Knights finished the 2008 season with a mark of 11-13-1. The EAGL Championships marked the end of careers for Rutgers successful senior class, Elizabeth Bohnsack, Stephanie Pannick, Tiffany Schramm and Jacquelyn Verdon.
