PISCATAWAY, N.J. - Rutgers head volleyball coach Jeff "CJ" Werneke has announced that Jason Donnelly has joined the program as an assistant coach.
Donnelly spent the last 12 years coaching at Laguna Blanca School in Santa Barbara, Calif. Additionally, Donnelly was the head coach for the very successful Santa Barbara Volleyball Club the last 10 seasons. Donnelly's 2007 team participated in the American Division of the Junior Olympics in Minneapolis, Minn.
"I am really excited to have Jason join our coaching staff as we rebuild this program and get Rutgers back to the top of the BIG EAST Conference," said Werneke. "Jason's energy and passion for the game will only help our program achieve what we are capable of. I am positive that his contributions both on and off the court will impact our program greatly."
Donnelly, who graduated with a psychology degree from University of the Pacific in 1996, played four years of Division I men's volleyball for the Tigers.
While at Laguna Blanca, Donnelly led the boy's volleyball program to seven Condor League titles. As the girl's coach, Donnelly won six Condor League titles and was honored with the High School Coach of the Year award by the Santa Barbara Roundtable in 2006. His duties included scheduling, hiring of coaches, practice planning and game management.
"Jason is a great coach who has played and taught at the highest level and his attention to detail and preparation will only enhance what we are building here at Rutgers," said Werneke. "The most important thing is that we want to surround our program with good people and I know we have done that with the addition of Jason to our staff."
