Rutgers Volleyball Releases 2008 Schedule

PISCATAWAY, N.J. - Rutgers head volleyball coach CJ Werneke has announced the team's 2008 schedule Wednesday. The Scarlet Knights will hit the road to play in three tournaments to kick off the 2008 slate before facing a very difficult BIG EAST Conference schedule.
"I am very excited about our upcoming 2008 season and our schedule, as we will be challenging ourselves in and out of the region before we head into conference play," said Werneke. "We are playing a number of programs from different conferences across the country which will prepare us for the different styles of play in our league."
Rutgers will begin the season out West at the Northern Arizona Tournament which will take place August 29-30 in Flagstaff, Ariz. The Scarlet Knights will then compete in two more tournaments back East before beginning conference play. RU will participate in the George Mason Tournament (Sept 5-6) and the Davidson College Tournament (Sept. 12-13).
BIG EAST play will begin on Sept. 26 as RU makes its home debut against Marquette at the College Ave Gym. The home weekend will continue against Syracuse on Sept. 28. Werneke's squad will then return to the road for four straight conference matches against Seton Hall (Oct. 4), Villanova (Oct. 5), St. John's (Oct. 10), and Connecticut (Oct. 12).
RU will make a brief stop back home for a non-conference tilt against Fordham on Oct. 15 before returning to the road for back-to-back conference matches against South Florida (Oct. 24) and Georgetown (Oct. 26). The longest homestretch of the season will kick off Nov. 1 against Pittsburgh and continue with home matches against West Virginia (Nov. 2), DePaul (Nov. 7), and Notre Dame (Nov. 9).
The Scarlet Knights will conclude the regular season on the road with what could prove to be crucial matches at Louisville (Nov. 15) and Cincinnati (Nov. 16). The BIG EAST Tournament is scheduled to begin on Nov. 21 in Pittsburgh, Pa. with the semifinals being held on the following day and the championship match slated for Nov. 23.
"It's going to be a great start to a new era here at Rutgers with our program getting back to the top of the BIG EAST Conference," said Werneke.
