DAVIDSON, N.C. - Sophomore outside hitter Caitlin Saxton (Encinitas, Calif.) posted a career-high 12 kills, however no other Scarlet Knight had more than three as George Mason topped Rutgers 3-0 (25-20, 25-12, 25-20) Friday night in the first match of the Davidson College Tournament.
Freshman Kallie Pence (College Station, Texas) recorded team-highs in both assists (16 and digs (11) as the Scarlet Knights fall to 1-6 on the season.
George Mason (2-5) was led by Rebecca Walter who tallied a match-high 18 kills to go along with six digs. Fernanda Bartels had a match-high 31 assists and seven digs.
Rutgers will continue play in the Davidson College Tournament on Sept. 13, as the Scarlet Knights will take on UNC-Charlotte and host Davidson. Matches will begin at 10:00 a.m.
