NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. (October 17, 2009) – The Rutgers volleyball team fell to defending co-BIG EAST regular season champion Cincinnati Saturday afternoon by a 3-0 score at College Avenue Gym in New Brunswick, N.J.
The Bearcats (14-8, 5-1 BIG EAST) defeated the Scarlet Knights (8-12, 1-5 BIG EAST) by scores of 25-16, 25-22, 25-16. RU is now on a four-match skid in conference play. The win gives Cincinnati a 9-2 advantage in the all-time series with Rutgers.
 
“I told the team after the match that we can’t back down,” said Rutgers head coach 
CJ Werneke. “We are not afraid or intimidated by anyone. Cincinnati is a good team. We gave them our best effort. We didn’t play perfect but when we played well we had an opportunity to win. That is all a coach can ever ask. Give yourself an opportunity and you will find a way to convert it with the more opportunities you have.”
 
 
Junior Caitlin Saxton (Encinitas, Calif.) and freshman Kylie Orr (Kettering, Ohio) each swatted a team-best 11 kills.
 
Saxton also stepped up defensively with 10 digs to give the five-foot-nine outside hitter her sixth double-double of 2009. On the season, Saxton has notched double-digit kills in seven of RU’s 11 three-set matches and leads the squad in kills with 249.
 
Orr’s 11 kills marks the third time this season she has swatted double-digit kills and puts her 2009 total at 100.The Kettering, Ohio native also made her presence known on the defensive side with a match-high three total blocks.
