PISCATAWAY, N.J. (October 19, 2009) – Rutgers men’s soccer junior Yannick Salmon (Westbury, N.Y.) was selected to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll, the conference announced on Monday. Salmon scored two goals in a win over Red Division rival Cincinnati to help guide the Scarlet Knights to a 3-0 victory.
Rutgers went 1-1 during the week, dropping a 3-1 contest on the road at No. 19 Brown, before rebounding with the win over the Bearcats. It was the second time this season that Salmon received weekly conference honors, after being named the BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week on Sept. 21. The junior midfielder led the Scarlet Knights to wins over conference foes Providence (Sept. 18) and Connecticut (Sept. 20), scoring game-winners in both matches.
Against the Bearcats, Salmon helped seal a 3-0 victory with two second-half goals. RU broke a scoreless deadlock after halftime on a goal in the 48th minute by sophomore Robbie McLarney (Londonderry, N.H.). Salmon followed with the insurance tallies the Scarlet Knights needed, scoring on an assist from sophomore forward Ibrahim Kamara (North Brunswick, N.J.) in the 72nd minute and in the 81st on a corner kick, assisted by sophomores David MacVane (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) and Bryant Knibbs (Pine Bush, N.Y.).
The Scarlet Knights will play their second of back-to-back home games on Wednesday, Oct 21, when it hosts non-conference foe NJIT at 7 p.m. Rutgers will then close out its BIG EAST regular-season schedule with three matches at Louisville and against Villanova and USF.
