SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Rutgers volleyball team fell to Syracuse, 3-0, in its first road BIG EAST match of the season Friday night in Syracuse, N.Y. at the Manley Field House.
The Orange (12-5. 2-1 BIG EAST) defeated the Scarlet Knights (7-9, 1-2 BIG EAST) by scores of 25-12, 25-16, 25-17. Syracuse leads the all-time series with Rutgers by a 14-7 advantage.

“Syracuse is very big at the net and we didn’t match up well tonight,” said Rutgers head coach
CJ Werneke. “They passed the ball very well throughout the match. We have to execute at a high level in all phases to compete with a team like Syracuse and we didn’t do that tonight. We have to refocus and prepare to bounce back.”

Sophomore Kallie Pence (College Station, Texas) dished out 24 assists for her third 20-plus assists match of the season.

Juniors Emma Chrystal (Kalamazoo, Mich.) and Caitlin Saxton (Encinitas, Calif.) eachscored a team-best 10 kills. Saxton has swatted a RU-best 211 this season topping her 2008 total (209) in 16 less sets played.

Rutgers will fly out Saturday morning for its next match at Marquette on Sunday at 3 p.m.
