NEW HAVEN, Conn. (Oct. 23, 2009) – The Rutgers tennis team will send four student-athletes to the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Regional Championships this weekend in New Haven, Conn. Junior Amy Zhang (Plano, Texas) and sophomore Jennifer Holzberg (Easton, Conn.) will each participate in singles and doubles action, while sophomore Morgan Ivey (Mt. Pleasant, S.C.) and senior Katherine Arlak (Leonia, N.J.) will pair up for doubled action.
“With two athletes seeded in the main draw, I believe this makes a strong statement for Rutgers tennis,” said head coach Benjamin Bucca. “Overall, our players have had a very strong fall. We are coming off a great scrimmage with Columbia, and I believe this shows that (RU tennis) is one of the leading programs in the region.”
Zhang will be seeded 10th in the main draw, while Holzberg will be seeded alphabetically 17th-32nd in singles play. Zhang and Holzberg will team up as seeded doubles, while Ivey and Arlak will also compete as a doubles team.
Over 150 players from 45 teams around the northeast region will compete at the ITA Regional Championships. The event is hosted by Yale University.
