PISCATAWAY, N.J. – The Rutgers volleyball team defeated Hofstra, 3-1, Wednesday night at the College Avenue Gym.
The Scarlet Knights (8-10, 1- 3 BIG EAST) dropped the Pride (5-14, 1-2 CAA) by scores of 25-19, 20-25, 25-22, 25-21. The win gives Rutgers a 16-15 advantage in the all-time series with Hofstra. The Scarlet Knights have won four straight matches in the series.
 
“This win shows when you bring energy and focus to practice it carries over into the match,” said Rutgers head coach 
CJ Werneke. “We can’t replicate the competition level of a match in practice but our team really focused these past two days in preparation and it paid off tonight.”
 
 
Juniors outside hitter Caitlin Saxton (Encinitas, Calif.) and sophomore middle blocker Hannah Curtis (Wasilla, Alaska) highlighted the match for the Scarlet Knights. Saxton posted her fourth double-double of the season with team-highs of 12 kills and 13 digs. Curtis scored her ninth double-digit kill match of the season with 10. Curtis and Saxton each swatted three total blocks.
 
Sophomore setter Kallie Pence (College Station, Texas) dished out 21 assists for her fourth 20-plus assists match of the season.
 
Junior outside hitter Emma Chrystal (Kalamazoo, Mich.) had another all-around performance with five kills, five assists, two service aces, 10 digs and three total blocks.
 
Senior outside hitter Monica Knight led the Pride with 14 kills and 12 digs.
 
Rutgers will be jump back into BIG EAST play in its next match when it travels to Villanova on Sunday for a 2 p.m. contest.
