RU Wrestlers Faces Elite Competition at Oklahoma Gold Tournament

BROCKPORT, N.Y. – (November 13, 2009) – Members of the Rutgers wrestling team will compete against some of the nation’s top individuals this Saturday at the 11th Annual Oklahoma Gold Tournament, hosted by Brockport, at the Tuttle North Gymnasium.
Along with Brockport and Rutgers, wrestlers from No. 3 and 2009-10 National Runner Up Ohio State, No. 12 Edinboro, Army, Buffalo, Kent State, Liberty and Oklahoma will participate in the event.
The 11th annual tournament will feature several preseason Division I ranked wrestlers with 19 individual wrestlers from the competing schools having finished in the top-20 rankings for the individual weight classes last season.
“We are excited about our guys having the opportunity to face some of the best individuals in the country,” said Rutgers head coach Scott Goodale. “It is good for our guys to compete against some great programs this early.”
Last season, five Scarlet Knights placed at the event. Then-freshman Scott Winston (Jackson, N.J.) led the way with a third-place at 157. As a team, RU finished in seventh-place.
Wrestling is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. and will run continuous to the end of the championship matches. Brackets for the tournament will be released Saturday morning.
