PISCATAWAY, N.J. (Nov. 16, 2009) – Senior captain Jen Anzivino (Middletown, N.J.) earned 2009 Women’s College Soccer Team of the Season accolades, it was announced Monday. Given out by Top Drawer Soccer, the First Team All-BIG EAST defender was ranked on the third team for her efforts during the 2009 season.
Leading the Scarlet Knights in the back, Anzivino helped the team tie a 17-year record (set in 1992) by allowing just 11 goals through 22 games. Anzivino also helped RU to break the record for lowest goals against average with a 0.48 mark in 2009 (in 2006, the squad allowed .50 goals per game).
An almost impenetrable backline, the Scarlet Knights shut out 12 of 22 opponents on the season, allowing just one team – No. 22 San Diego – to score more than one goal in a match.
Anzivino played her final match in a scarlet uniform Sunday in the second round of the NCAA Tournament, falling, 1-0, to No. 8 South Carolina. The Middletown, N.J. local will graduate with a communications major in the spring and aspires to play in the Women’s Professional Soccer (WPS) league.
