Saxton Named to BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll

PISCATAWAY, N.J. (Nov. 3, 2009) Rutgers volleyball junior outside hitter Caitlin Saxton (Encinitas, Calif.) was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll, the conference office announced Monday. Saxton earned the honor after she scored a match high in kills in both BIG EAST contests this past weekend.
In RU’s 3-1 win over DePaul last Saturday, Saxton swatted 13 kills on a .278 attack percentage to go along with six digs and a solo block. The five-foot-nine outside hitter tallied 15 kills and nine digs against BIG EAST leader Notre Dame on Sunday.
Saxton leads the team in kills with 319 this season. She currently ranks eighth in the conference in kills per set with a 3.51 average. The RU co-captain owns a 3.81 points per set average, which ranks ninth in the BIG EAST.
The weekly honor roll selection marks the second time a Scarlet Knight has garnered the distinction this season as sophomore middle blocker Hannah Curtis (Wasilla, Alaska) earned the accolade the week of Sept. 14-20.
Saxton and the Scarlet Knights return to action this weekend when it hosts Connecticut on Saturday and St. John’s on Sunday. First serve is set for 2 p.m. for both matches.
