Guthrie & Anzivino Named First Team ECAC Soccer All-Stars

CAPE COD, Mass. (Dec. 2, 2009) – Rutgers women’s soccer standouts Erin Guthrie (Sparta, N.J.) and Jen Anzivino (Middletown, N.J.) were named First Team ECAC Women's Soccer All-Stars, the conference announced Wednesday. Guthrie was also named the Co-Defensive Player of the Year with Boston College goalkeeper Jillian Mastroianni. Both senior captains previously earned All-BIG EAST First Team honors, Guthrie as BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Year.
The Scarlet Knights defense tied a record set in 1992 by allowing just 11 goals through 22 games. RU also broke the record for lowest goals against average with a 0.48 mark (in 2006, the squad allowed .50 goals per game).
Guthrie posted a .47 goals against average, allowing just 10 goals in 21 games. Her GAA places her fifth overall in the NCAA. The netminder posted a .885 save percentage and had 11 shutouts to extend her position as Rutgers all-time career shutouts leader with 44 clean sheets.
Anzivino led a back line that allowed just .50 goals per game and helped to achieve 11 shutouts in 2009. The senior captain played and started in every game, playing every minute in 16 matches. She scored two goals on the season, including the equalizer on a penalty kick in an emotional overtime win over DePaul. At center back, Anzivino allowed opponents just four shots on goal per game.
Together – along with seniors Gina DeMaio (Parsippany Hills, N.J.), Caycie Gusman (Honolulu, Hawaii), Kristie Lang (East Brunswick, N.J.) and Becky Wise (West Springfield, Mass.) – the two led Rutgers to its most successful four-year run in the history of the program. During their tenure, Rutgers won 52 matches – the most over a four-year campaign in Rutgers history. Those wins include 26 victories in BIG EAST play and three trips to the NCAA Tournament – two more RU records.
