
Russo Highlights RU Wrestling in National Rankings

NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. (Dec. 2, 2009) – Redshirt junior Dominick Russo (Netcong, N.J.), highlights the Rutgers wrestling team’s presence in the national rankings released this past week as he was listed in the top-10 of four polls.
Additionally, Rutgers (3-3, 0-1 EIWA) is receiving votes in the NWCA/USA Today Division I Team Coaches Poll.
Russo is listed in the top-nine of four different national listings. The undefeated heavyweight is placed as high as No. 7 by WrestlingReport.com and InterMat, Amateur Wrestling News and D1CollegeWrestling.net have him at No. 9. Russo is a perfect 9-0 on the season and seven of his victories have come by pin fall. Russo has claimed four victories over ranked opponents this season
Along with Russo, Lamar Brown (Red Bank, N.J.), Bill Ashnault (South Plainfield, N.J.) , Trevor Melde (Hewitt, N.J.), David Greenwald (Union, N.J.) and Joesph Langell, (Howell, N.J.), are still listed in national rankings of their respective weight class.
Ashnault is listed at No. 19 by both InterMat and D1CollegeWrestling.net. WrestlingReport.com ranks the RU newcomer as the 24th best 133-pounder in the country. Ashnault is tied with Russo for the most dual points this season with 24. Ashnault picked up his biggest win of the season last Friday when he defeated No. 13 David Marble of Bucknell by an 8-3 decision.
Greenwald, Langel and Melde are all listed in three different national rankings.
Langel earned a No. 18 spot by Amateur Wrestling News and a No. 24 posting by D1CollegeWrestling.net and WrestlingReport.com. The Howell, N.J. native is 9-4 on the season.
At 141 pounds, Melde is positioned as high as No. 17 by D1CollegeWrestling.net. WrestlingReport.com (18) and Amateur Wrestling News (No. 20) also recognized Melde. The Hewitt, N.J. native has tallied three major decisions this season.
Greenwald’s highest ranking comes from WrestlingReport.com at No. 19. Intermat and D1CollegeWrestling.net posted Greenwald at No. 20 and 23, respectively. The Union, N.J. is 5-3 this season, including two pin fall victories.
Brown appears at No. 17 by D1CollegeWrestling.net and No. 20 by WrestlingReport.com. The fifth-year senior owns a 6-3 record this season.
Rutgers will be back in action this Saturday when it travels to Princeton for a tri-meet with VMI.
