RU Wrestling Faces In-State EIWA Foe Princeton, VMI

PRINCETON, N.J. (Dec. 4, 2009) – The Rutgers wrestling team will compete in its first New Jersey dual meet of the season Saturday when it travel to in-state EIWA rival Princeton for a tri-meet with VMI at the Dillon Gymnasium. Rutgers will battle VMI at noon and Princeton at 3 p.m. Admission is free to all the matches.
Last Friday, RU (3-3, 0-1 EIWA) fell to defending NCAA Champion and No. 1 Iowa, 33-9, and EIWA foe Bucknell, 26-12, in Lewisburg, Pa.
Three Scarlet Knights are listed in the latest Intermat individual rankings - Dominick Russo (No. 9 – 285 pounds), Bill Ashnault (No. 19 – 133 pounds)and David Greenwald (No. 20 – 149 pounds).
Russo is a perfect 9-0 on the season and seven of his victories have come by pin fall. Russo has claimed four victories over ranked opponents this season.
Ashnault is tied with Russo for the most dual points this season with 24. Ashnault picked up his biggest win of the season last Friday when he defeated No. 13 David Marble of Bucknell by an 8-3 decision.
Greenwald is 5-3 this season, including two pin fall victories.
Princeton is competing in its first dual meet of the season Friday night when it battles EIWA foe Franklin & Marshall. Last season, Princeton earned its first dual win since 2005 when it defeated the Diplomats 25-14.
VMI is led by 174-pound sophomore Andrew Szymborski, who owns a team-best five wins and two major decisions this season. The Last time VMI competed was at the Keyston Classic on Nov. 22 where junior John Pope placed sixth in the 125-pound bracket.
