Epiphanny Prince Named To Midseason Naismith Trophy List

PISCATAWAY, N.J. - Rutgers guard Epiphanny Prince (Brooklyn, N.Y.) was selected as a midseason candidate for the 2009 Naismith Trophy presented by AT&T, the Atlanta Tipoff Club announced this morning. Prince is one of seven representatives from the BIG EAST conference and one of 11 juniors to top the list.
Prince leads the Scarlet Knights and is ranked third in the conference in scoring, averaging 19.7 points per game. The junior, who is averaging a league second-best 36.8 minutes per game is also ranked fourth in the BIG EAST in free throw percentage (.821) and fifth in steals (2.5).
The Brooklyn native is shooting 41.5 percent on the season, leading the team with 38 three-pointers. In addition, Prince is registering 5.0 rebounds and a team-best 2.8 assists per game. Prince has also been selected a midseason candidate for the John R. Wooden Award and was named a finalist for the Nancy Lieberman Award on Tuesday.
The top 30 women’s list was voted on by the Atlanta Tipoff Club’s Board of Selectors, comprised of leading basketball journalists, coaches and administrators from around the country. The board based its criteria on player performances this season.
