Prince Selected to Wooden Award National Ballot

PISCATAWAY, N.J. - Rutgers guard Epiphanny Prince (Brooklyn, N.Y.) was named to the official John R. Wooden Award National Ballot, it was announced on Friday.
A panel of more than 300 voters, comprised of sports media members and college basketball experts, have until 3:00 p.m. on Monday, March 30 to cast their votes. The lengthy period allows voters the chance to evaluate players up through games of the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament.
Prince, one of 19 players to make the coveted ballot, leads the Scarlet Knights and is ranked third in the BIG EAST in scoring, averaging 19.2 points per game. In addition, the junior is third in the league in steals (2.7 per game), fourth in free throw percentage (.812) and second in minutes (36.7).
The junior has scored in double figures in 26 straight contests and tallied 20-plus points in 14 games. She is shooting nearly 42 percent on the season and leads the team with 43 three-pointers.
The Brooklyn native is one of five BIG EAST players to top the list, joining Renee Montgomery and Maya Moore from Connecticut, Pittsburgh guard Shavonte Zellous and Louisville forward Angel McCoughtry.
The 2009 Award ceremony, which will include the presentation of the Men’s and Women’s Wooden Award winners and the Legends of Coaching Award to Rick Barnes of the University of Texas, will be held at The Los Angeles Athletic Club on Friday, April 10.
