Rutgers Gymnastics Travels To Towson For Regular-Season Finale

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – The Rutgers gymnastics team will compete in its final meet of the regular season against Towson, Bridgeport, William & Mary, and Southern Connecticut State Saturday inside Towson Center in Towson Md.
The Scarlet Knights were edged by Cornell 190.350-190.075 in their last meet, at the Livingston Recreation Center last Saturday. RU has earned team scores over 190.000 in their last two meets, the first consecutive scores in the 190.000s since the 2007 season.
Rutgers honored seniors Kristy Behr (Northport, N.Y.), Jessica Haddaway (Baltimore, Md.), Alison Hartwig (Wayne, N.J.), and Latara Northcutt (Snellville, Ga.) at the conclusion of the last meet. Northcutt has returned to full strength in the last two meets, adding much needed depth to the Rutgers rotation. She is averaging scores of 9.650 on the vault, 9.625 on the beam, and 9.588 in the floor exercise over the last two meets, while placing second and fourth overall on the beam in each meeting. Behr posted a season-high mark of 9.725 on the bars on February 28, earning third place overall in the event.
Freshman Nicole Schwartz (Somerset, N.J.) has settled into her role in the all-around, averaging a 38.000 in her last three meets. She placed first overall last Saturday. The freshman has improved her scores all season long emerging as one of the key contributors. Schwartz has scored back-to-back marks of 9.675 in the floor exercise, earning second overall in the last meet. On February 13 against Cortland, she scored a 9.700 on the beam, taking the top score in the event.
Freshman Danae Johnson (Silver Spring, Md.) has led the way in the floor exercise all-season for the Scarlet Knights. Since January 24, Johnson is averaging a 9.663 in the event, posting a season-high first place score of 9.875 on February 7. She also placed second overall in the floor exercise on January 28, with a score of 9.750, while finishing second on the beam on February 13, with a score of 9.650.
The Scarlet Knights have faced Towson, Bridgeport, and William & Mary in previous meets this season.
RU recently defeated Bridgeport at home on February 28, when the Scarlet Knights scored a season-high mark of 192.050. It was the first time Rutgers defeated Bridgeport in three meeting on the year. Historically, RU is 10-4 against Bridgeport.
In Rutgers only meeting with Towson on the season, RU was defeated 192.275-187.950 on January 28, in Philadelphia, Pa. The Scarlet Knights are 2-0 on the year against William & Mary, last facing them at home on January 24. With their two victories this season, RU has moved to 6-1 overall against the Tribe.
Rutgers has not faced Southern Connecticut State this season; however they are 15-10 historically against the Owls.
Rutgers next competition will be in the EAGL Championships Saturday, March 21in Raleigh N.C.
