Rutgers Women's Basketball to Play in 2009 Paradise Jam

PISCATAWAY, N.J. - Rutgers women's basketball will participate in the 2009 US Virgin Islands Paradise Jam at University of Virgin Islands, it has been released by Basketball Travelers. The event is celebrating its tenth anniversary and this marks the Scarlet Knights' third appearance in the competitive tournament.
RU will face Southern California on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, Nov. 26 at 7:00 p.m. Mississippi State and Texas will meet in the other first-day game (Nov. 28, 9:30 p.m.) of the Reef Division. The Scarlet Knights will take on Mississippi State on Nov. 27 at 7:00 p.m. and wrap up play in the event with a 9:30 p.m. showdown with Texas on Saturday, Nov. 28. Games will be played at the U.V.I. Sports and Fitness Center, the Caribbean's premier basketball facility located in Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas. All game times are listed as Atlantic Standard Time, which is one hour ahead of Eastern Standard Time.
The Paradise Jam consists of two separate tournament divisions. Each is a four-team, three-game round-robin event. In addition to the Reef Division, the other division is called the Island Division. The field for the Island Division includes Oklahoma, Notre Dame, South Carolina and San Diego State.
Rutgers (21-13) returns eight letterwinners and three starters from a team that advanced to the NCAA regional semifinals for the fifth straight year.
