LARAMIE, Wyo. - The Rutgers volleyball team dropped its season opener against Wyoming, 3-0, Friday afternoon at the UniWyo Cowgirl Classic at the UniWyo Sports Complex.

The Cowgirls (1-0) posted scores of 25-17, 25-17, 25-13, to knock off the Scarlet Knights (0-1). Rutgers will get a chance to redeem themselves Friday night as they take on Idaho State at 7 p.m. ET. 

Junior Kallie Pence (College Station, Texas) highlighted the match for the Scarlet Knights as she posted 20 assists on an outstanding .833 percent.

Co-captain Caitlin Saxton (Encinitas, Calif.) also had a strong showing with eight kills and six digs.

Rutgers will close out the tournament Saturday, Aug. 29 at 7 p.m. against South Dakota State. An all-tournament team will be announced following the Rutgers-South Dakota State match. Rutgers has never faced the other three tournament participants.
