
Rutgers Volleyball Takes on Rider in Midweek Matchup

PISCATAWAY, N.J. (October 11, 2010) - The Rutgers volleyball team (7-11, 0-5 BIG EAST) will continue its five-match home stand tomorrow when it hosts Rider (1-16) Tuesday, Oct. 12, at 6 p.m. at the College Ave Gym. The match will be broadcast live on KnightVision Broadband via www.scarletknights.com.
The Rider Broncs enter their midweek matchup with a 1-16 overall record. For the season, Rider has been paced by Katelyn Thompson and Amanda Piccolini. Thompson leads the squad in kills with 150 for a 2.83 kills per set average, while Piccolini sets up the attack with a team best 414 assists.
Rutgers leads the all-time series with Rider 12-2. The last matchup between the two programs came in 1996 at the Quaker Invitational hosted by Penn. In that matchup, Rutgers downed Rider in three sets (15-10, 15-4, 15-11). The last Broncs win in the series came in 1985 when Rider dropped Rutgers in three sets (15-2, 15-6, 15-11).
Rutgers is coming off a weekend where it dropped a four set match to Villanova (15-4, 4-1 BIG EAST) Saturday afternoon at College Ave Gym. The Scarlet Knights were led by Emma Chrystal (Portage, Mich.) and Stephanie Zielinski (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.) who each tallied double-doubles in the losing effort. Chrystal tallied 17 kills and 10 digs for her third double-double of the season, while Zielinski notched her team-leading seventh on 45 assists and 13 digs.
For the season, Rutgers has been paced by Zielinski and fellow captain Caitlin Saxton (Encinitas, Calif.). Zielinski leads the team in assists with 640 while Saxton paces the squad in kills (195), digs (169) and service aces (18).
