NEWARK, N.J. (October 5, 2010) – The Rutgers men’s soccer team (3-5-1) dropped a 1-0 result on the road at NJIT (3-7-0) Tuesday night at Lubetkin Field at J. Malcolm Simon Stadium.
NJIT broke a scoreless tie in the 61st minute with a goal from Rahim Stennett en route to the one-goal victory. Despite the Scarlet Knights outshooting the Highlanders 12-11 for the game, NJIT put more opportunities on goal with a 6-4 advantage.
Freshman midfielder Todd Webb (Toms River, N.J.) led the Scarlet Knights with two shots on goal, while junior midfielder Nye Winslow (Piscataway, N.J.) and junior defender Bryant Knibbs (Pine Bush, N.Y.) chipped in one each. Junior goalkeeper Adam Klink (Chesapeake, Va.) made five saves in the effort against the Highlanders.
The Scarlet Knights have dropped their last four games, including three-straight road contests. After getting off to a quick start offensively, outscoring its opponents 8-6 through the first five games, RU has since been outscored 6-0 in its previous four matches.
The Highlanders evened the all-time series at 2-2 with the win. The two teams have alternated victories with the Scarlet Knights winning the inaugural matchup in 2007, followed by a NJIT win in 2008 and a Rutgers triumph in 2009. In all four games, the home squad earned the win.
Rutgers will return to its home turf to host BIG EAST foe Louisville on Saturday, Oct. 9, at 7 p.m. at Yurcak Field.
