Zielinski Named to BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll

PISCATAWAY, N.J. (November 1, 2010) -Rutgers volleyball sophomore setter Stephanie Zielinski (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.) was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll, the conference office announced Monday. This marks the second such honor of Zielinski’s career.
Zielinski, who also took home BIG EAST Weekly Honors for the week of Oct. 18, is one of two Scarlet Knights to earn conference accolades this season. The other RU student-athlete is fellow captain Caitlin Saxton (Encinitas, Calif.) who took home the honors for the week of Sept. 13.
Zielinski earned the recognition after an outstanding weekend of play where she helped lead the Scarlet Knights in a pair of thrilling five-set matches.
Last Friday against Georgetown, the sophomore captain led the squad in both assists (31) and digs (15), tallying her 11thdouble-double of the season. Zielinski also contributed six kills and two blocks in the narrow five-set defeat.
The Ft. Lauderdale native followed up her strong contest against the Hoyas with an even stronger showing against USF. Against the Bulls, Zielinski recorded another double-double, the 18thof her career, on a season-high 62 assists and 17 digs. Zielinski was one of RU’s keys to winning the deciding fifth-set against the Bulls as she tallied nine assists on the Scarlet Knights’ 10 kills in an 18-16 set victory.
With her 93 assists over the weekend, Zielinski moved into seventh place on the Rutgers all-time assists list with 1623. Zielinski needs 17 more assists to catch Roxy Calder for sixth place.
Zielinski and the rest of the Scarlet Knights return to action this Saturday, Nov. 6, when they host BIG EAST rival Marquette in a 2 p.m. matchup at College Ave. Gym.
