PISCATAWAY, N.J. (Nov. 4, 2010) – Rutgers women’s soccer redshirt freshman Jonelle Filigno (Mississauga, ON, Canada) was named to the All-BIG EAST Second Team, the conference announced Thursday at its annual postseason banquet.
Filigno saw action in 15 matches, starting 14 at forward. She led the team with 12 points on four goals and four assists. The Mississauga, Canada native missed the final five contests of the season as she was named to the Canadian National Team final roster. During the CONCACAF World Cup Qualifier, Filigno tallied eight points on three goals and two assists as Canada went 3-0 to win Group A.
In her first career start against Stony Brook, Filigno showed her skill as she beat a defender and drove the ball into the net from the top of the box in stride. The redshirt freshman scored her first game-winner against Princeton on Sept. 3, corralling a pass from Julie Lancos (Belford, N.J.). Against Bucknell, Filigno notched a three-point day, including her first penalty kick in a Scarlet Knight uniform.
Filigno and the rest of the Scarlet Knights await to see if they will receive an at large bid to the NCAA Championship Monday, Nov. 8. RU hopes to make its fourth appearance in five seasons.
