
Rutgers Volleyball Hosts Marquette and Syracuse

PISCATAWAY, N.J. (November 4, 2010) – Coming off a pair of five-set contests at Georgetown and USF, the Rutgers volleyball team (10-14, 2-8 BIG EAST) will host a pair of BIG EAST rivals, Marquette and Syracuse, this weekend at College Ave. Gym.
In their first contest of the weekend, the Scarlet Knights will face the Marquette Golden Eagles (18-7, 8-2 BIG EAST) in a 2 p.m. Saturday contest. The Golden Eagles, who are who are riding an 11-match winning streak, have been led offensively by Rabbecka Gonyo who leads the BIG EAST and NCAA in hitting percentage with a mark of .441 (246 kills, 51 errors, 442 attempts).Marquette, which leads the all-time series with RU 7-1, is coached by Bond Shymansky who is in his second season with the program.
In the second matchup of the weekend, Rutgers will take on the Syracuse Orange (22-6, 4-6 BIG EAST) at 2 p.m. on Sunday. The Orange, who are coming off a 3-2 victory over Marquette, have been paced by Laura Homann who is averaging 10.45 assists per set. Syracuse, which is 14-7 all-time against RU, is coached by Jing Pu who is in his 15thseason with the program.
For the season, RU has been paced by captains Stephanie Zielinski (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.) and Caitlin Saxton (Encinitas, Calif.). Zielinski leads the squad in assists (857) and digs (238), while Saxton paces the squad in kills (264).
