Rutgers Softball Gears Up For Doubleheader With Stony Brook

STONY BROOK, N.Y. (March 23, 2010) – Rutgers softball returns to the metropolitan area for a doubleheader at Stony Brook Wednesday, March 24. Action starts at 2 p.m. This will be the sixth meeting between the two teams, with the Scarlet Knights holding a 3-2 advantage over the Seawolves.
RU (9-14) is coming off a doubleheader sweep of Missouri State on Thursday. Rutgers notched 17 runs on 24 hits for the day. Sophomore Holly Johnson (Cheektowaga, N.Y.) tallied a 0.00 ERA, earning a complete game win and giving up just one unearned run on five hits. Senior Nicole Lindley (Cicero, N.Y.) let up just one earned run on six hits in a seven-inning win.
Johnson leads the pitchers with a 3.80 ERA, tallying three wins in five games started and a save. Lindley paces the squad with four wins, maintaining a 4.42 ERA with a team-best 52 strikeouts.
At the plate, freshman Ashley Bragg (Middletown, Del.) has averaged .545 over the last three games, with a .636 slugging percentage. Brittany Lindley (Cicero, N.Y.) leads the team at a .344 clip, adding 11 RBI on the season.
Stony Brook (9-7) is coming off a 5-0 home win over Fairfield Sunday. The Seawolves went 4-0 last week, led by senior pitcher Alyssa Struzenberg, who tossed a no hitter and broke a pair of school records. In four games, Struzenberg allowed just five hits in 18.2 innings of work and broke Stony Brook's all-time wins (59) and shutouts (19) records.
At the plate, senior Vicki Kavitsky paces SBU with a .438 batting average, adding nine RBI. The shortstop hit .625 (10-16) during the Stony Brook Invitational, with half going for doubles, resulting in a .938 slugging percentage for the weekend.
Leading the Seawolves is Megan Bryant in her 10th season at the helm of Stony Brook. The winningest coach in Stony Brook softball history with more than 240 career victories, Bryant made school history in 2008 when she led the Seawolves to their first-ever America East Championship and into the NCAA Tournament.
