Rutgers Tennis Defeats Army, 5-2

PISCATAWAY, N.J. (March 8, 2010) – The Rutgers tennis team defeated Army, 5-2, Sunday at the Busch Tennis Bubble. The Scarlet Knights improve to 5-3 overall, maintaining a 1-1 record in the BIG EAST.
“This was an incredible five-hour match, with every point hotly contested,” said head coach Benjamin Bucca. “At key moments, we played our best tennis and that was the difference.”
Rutgers swept doubles play. Junior Amy Zhang (Plano, Texas) andsophomore Jennifer Holzberg (Easton, Conn.) extended their win-streak to five at No. 1 doubles, defeating Annie Haughton and Kristen Beeler of Army.
Zhang also won at No. 1 singles against Haughton, fighting back to get the victory in three sets (6-4, 2-6, 10-8). Holzberg defeated USMA’s Jessica Ahn (7-6 (3), 6-3) to get two wins in the singles column.
Sophomore Maryana Milchutsky (Holmdel, N.J.) improved to 6-2 on the year at No. 4 singles with a 6-7 (4), 6-4, 10-6 win over USMA’s Annie Hang.
RU takes to the courts again on Wednesday, March 10th for a 2 p.m. match-up against BIG EAST foe Villanova at the Busch Tennis Bubble.
