
Rutgers Softball Splits With Georgetown

WASHINGTON, D.C. (April 28, 2010) – Rutgers softball (19-28, 5-10) split with Georgetown (17-27, 6-10) Wednesday, April 28 at Guy Mason Field, falling in game one, 1-0, and upending the Hoyas 7-1 in game two. Junior Mandy Craig (Manassas, Va.) went 3-for-7 on the day with an RBI.
Sophomore Holly Johnson (Cheektowaga, N.Y.) toed the rubber for Rutgers, allowing one run on four hits while striking out eight in seven innings.
To start game two, Ashley Bragg (Middletown, Del.) and Brittney Lindley (Cicero, N.Y.) workedback-to-back walks and Craig sent a bloop hit over the shortstop’s head to score the first run. Freshman Kaci Madden (Saratoga, N.Y.) kept it going with an infield hit and Brittney Lindley scored on a throwing error by the shortstop Samantha Peters to give RU a 2-0 advantage.
RU got out of trouble in the fourth, as the bases were loaded on a GU single, a throwing error and a walk. Freshman Jenny Harabedian (Flemington, N.J.) jumped and grabbed a line drive, flipping Bragg for the double play and the end of the inning.
Rutgers used a five-run sixth to make the score 7-0. Harabedian reached on an error by Georgetown second baseman Kelsie Hanson and Madden was hit by a pitch to put runners on first and second. In the eight spot, sophomore Kylee Bishop (Tacoma, Wash.) punched a hit over the second baseman’s head into right field to drive in Harabedian and give the Scarlet Knights a 3-0 lead.
Sophomore Lindsey Curran (Monroe Twp., N.J.) kept it going with a single to right center, scoring Madden. Bragg reached on an error by the third baseman to load the bases and Brittney Lindley drove in two with a hard hit single through the right side. The GU first baseman booted the ball hit by Craig, allowing another run to score.
The Hoyas got one back in the bottom half of the inning on a double by Hanson and a single by Mackensey Carter.
A pitching duel in game one, both teams combined for five hits and played five scoreless innings.
The Hoyas broke the scoreless tie in the bottom of the sixth on a base hit through the left side by McKinley Cooper, scoring Demetria Cipriano who reached on a walk. The Scarlet Knights got out of the inning with a strikeoutand a pop out, but could not match the run in the top of the seventh.
Senior Nicole Lindley (Cicero, N.Y.) earned the nod for RU, allowing one run on three hits in six innings. The righty fanned seven batters in game one, but walked six.
Carter earned her eighth win for GU, allowing two hits, walking one and striking out two.
The Scarlet Knights continue their road trip at St. John’s, Saturday and Sunday, May 1-2 for a three game series with the Red Storm.
