
Rutgers Softball Continues Road Trip At St. John's

QUEENS, N.Y. (April 30, 2010) – Rutgers softball continues its five-game road trip with a three game series against St. John’s Saturday and Sunday May 1-2 at Red Storm Field. RU leads the all-time series with STJ 28-19-1.
The Scarlet Knights (19-28, 5-10) split with Georgetown Wednesday at Guy Mason Field, falling in game one, 1-0, and upending the Hoyas 7-1 in game two. Junior Mandy Craig (Manassas, Va.) went 3-for-7 on the day with an RBI, while freshman Kaci Madden (Saratoga, N.Y.) hit .750 with an .833 on-base percentage. Sophomore Holly Johnson (Cheektowaga, N.Y.) earned the win for Rutgers, allowing one run on four hits while striking out eight in seven innings.
Sophomore Brittney Lindley (Cicero, N.Y.) leads RU at the dish with a .310 batting average, nine home runs and 30 RBI. Her round-trippers rank fifth in the conference, while her .574 slugging percentage sits ninth in the BIG EAST.
Senior ace Nicole Lindley (Cicero, N.Y.) paces the pitching corps with a 3.48 ERA, nine wins and a career-high 109 strikeouts. In her last three appearances, Jophnson has boasted a 0.44 ERA with two wins and 22 strikeouts. The lefty’s .227 opposing batting average places her seventh in the league.
St. John’s (17-28, 5-11) fell to Long Island Thursday by a score of 9-2. The Red Storm had a 2-1 lead in the third, before allowing seven unanswered runs. Left fielder Chelsea Durning went 2-for-3 with a run scored in the contest.
Junior Kacee Cox paces STJ with a .394 batting average and seven home runs. In the circle for the Red Storm is Kat Lawrence with 11 wins and a 5.22 ERA, striking out 98 batters in 2010.
Head coach of St. John’s is Amy Kvilhaug in her fourth year with the Johnnies. Last season, Kvilhaug led the Red Storm to its first BIG EAST Tournament appearance in three years, earning the No. 7 seed.
