Rutgers Softball Takes On Hofstra At RU Softball Complex

PISCATAWAY, N.J. (April 7, 2010) - The Rutgers softball team hosts its first home game Wednesday, April 7, when the squad welcomes Hofstra to the RU Softball Complex for a 3 p.m. doubleheader. Live stats will be available on www.scarletknights.com.
Hofstra holds an 18-4 all-time advantage over RU, including winning the last six-straight contests dating back to 2004.
The Scarlet Knights (12-17, 0-2) are coming off two losses to No. 24 Notre Dame, including Saturday's five hour and 25 minute 8-0 loss at Melissa Cook Stadium. RU outhit UND 6-5, but could not string together offense for the win.
Sophomore Brittany Lindley (Cicero, N.Y.) paces the team at the plate with a .325 average, adding 15 RBI and three home runs. Classmate Mikelyn Messina (Prospect, Conn.) leads the team with seven home runs, just one away from tying for second in the RU record book for home runs in a season.
In the circle, sophomore Holly Johnson (Cheektowaga, N.Y.) leads the hurlers with a 3.78 ERA in 57.1 innings pitched. The lefty owns the only no-hitter this season and has picked up two conference nods - including BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week after the USF Under Armour Tournament. Senior ace Nicole Lindley (Cicero, N.Y.) has notched five wins on the season, fanning 63 batters in 2010.
Hofstra (22-6, 6-0 CAA) is coming off a 6-2 win over Princeton Tuesday. Freshman right fielder Tessa Ziemba was 3-for-3 with a homer, two runs, and two RBI and freshman pitcher Olivia Galati earned the victory in the circle and had a two-run double at the plate in the win.
At the plate, Michele DePasquale paces the Pride with a .365 average, adding 14 RBI. In the circle, Galati owns a 1.19 ERA with 14 wins and 135 strikeouts.
At the helm of Hofstra is head coach Bill Edwards in his 21st season. He led Hofstra to the regional finals of the NCAA Tournament in 2004, 2005 and 2008, and helped the Pride capture 11-straight conference tournament titles from 1998-2008, which is an NCAA Division I record.
