Rutgers Softball Opens Three-Game Series with Connecticut

PISCATAWAY, N.J. (April 9, 2010) - Continuing its nine-game home stand, the Rutgers softball team face BIG EAST rival Connecticut in a three-game series this Saturday and Sunday, April 10-11, at the RU Softball Complex. Action starts both days at noon, with Saturday featuring a doubleheader.
Saturday's games will be shown on tape delay through Knightvision Broadband via www.scarletknights.com. Danny Bresslauer and Adam Helfgott will have the call. Live stats will also be available through RU's Web site.
Rutgers (12-19) fell to Hofstra twice in its home opener at the RU Softball Complex Wednesday, dropping game one by a score of 4-1 and edged in game two, 2-1. Sophomore Brittany Lindley (Cicero, N.Y.) hit at a .333 clip for the day, driving in both runs for the Scarlet Knights.
Freshman Abbey Houston (New Egypt, N.J.) came in for a strong relief appearance, scattering two hits in 3.2 innings in her RU Softball Complex debut.
Lindley leads the Scarlet Knights at the plate with a .326 average. The sophomore has started every game at third base this season, hitting four home runs, driving in 17 RBI and stealing six bases. Also excelling for the Scarlet Knights is sophomore Mikelyn Messina (Prospect, Conn.), who ranks third all-time on the single season home run list (7) at RU and needs just one long ball to tie for second. The utility player ranked fourth in the BIG EAST in homers and eighth in the conference (first on the team) in RBI (26).
In the circle, sophomore Holly Johnson (Cheektowaga, N.Y.) paces RU with a 5-5 record. The lefty owns a 4.04 ERA and 39 strikeouts in 2010. Sophomore Noelle Sisco (Towaco, N.J.) leads the team with a 3.98 ERA.
Connecticut (14-18) is led by sophomore third baseman Amy DeLuca with a .344 batting average, adding 17 RBI. In the circle, Kiki Saveriano boasts a 2.26 ERA with eight wins and 99 strikeouts.
The Huskies are led by head coach Karen Mullins in her 27th season. The Connecticut alum has amassed a 776-502-5 record in Storrs and led the Huskies to eight NCAA Tournament appearances, including one Women's College World Series appearance. GAME NOTES
