PISCATAWAY, N.J. (June 7, 2010) – Rutgers softball assistant coach Diana Consolmagno has accepted the head coaching position at the University of Hartford, the team announced Thursday. Consolmagno spent four years with the Scarlet Knights, working primarily with the outfielders and helping the squad to its first BIG EAST Championship appearance since 1998 this past season.
“I am excited at the opportunity to coach at a Division I institution,” said Consolmagno. “It is bittersweet for me because, as much as I am looking forward to it, I am upset at having to leave this staff – Jay Nelson and Misty Beaver, as well as our supporting cast. I am also very upset about leaving this team. I am excited to see the progression of this team next year because I believe they are going to do great things.”
Consolmagno enjoyed a standout collegiate career as a four-year captain at the University of Wisconsin and a member of several successful Badger teams.
A former outfielder herself, the Staten Island, N.Y. native assisted with the Scarlet Knight outfielders and in 2007 the team saw great success under her guidance as left fielder Amanda Heller was named to the All-BIG EAST second team. She also served as the squad’s hitting coach, base path coach and conditioning coach. In addition, Consolmagno provided support as the Scarlet Knights’ fundraising coordinator and film technician while overseeing recruiting operations and camps/clinics.
