PISCATAWAY, N.J. (August 20, 2010) – The Rutgers men’s soccer team will kickoff the 2010 season with an exhibition match against Lafayette on Saturday at noon at Yurcak Field. The match marks the first action for the Scarlet Knights under newly appointed head coach Dan Donigan.
Rutgers will host a second exhibition match with fellow BIG EAST member and instate rival Seton Hall on Wednesday, Aug. 25 at 7 p.m.
The 2010 season officially opens on Wednesday, Sept. 1, when RU travels to Pennsylvania to take on Lehigh at 7 p.m. The Scarlet Knights return to Piscataway for their home opener on Friday, Sept. 10, at 7 p.m. against Delaware. That contest will be broadcast on Verizon Fios1 and streamed live on KnightVision Broadband.
Rutgers returns 14 letterwinners and seven starters from last season’s squad including a pair of All-BIG EAST selections in Second Team honoree Yannick Salmon (Westbury, N.Y.) and Third Team pick Ibrahim Kamara (North Brunswick, N.J.). Kamara was RU’s leading goal scorer with seven tallies, while Salmon was second on the team with six goals.
Donigan takes over the reins at Rutgers following a nine-year stint at Saint Louis University where he led the Billikens to the second round of the 2009 NCAA Tournament. A Hamilton, N.J. native, Donigan posted a 118-42-23 (.708) overall record in nine seasons at Saint Louis. Donigan was a three-time conference and two-time regional Coach of the Year while at Saint Louis, guiding the Billikens to seven appearances in the NCAA Tournament, including a pair of trips to the quarterfinals.
