PISCATAWAY, N.J. (August 26, 2010) – Rutgers field hockey will commence the 2010 season on Friday, August 27, versus James Madison University. The contest is the season opener for both squads.
The Scarlet Knights, who received votes in the Kookaburra/National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division I Preseason Poll released this week, face off with the Dukes at 7 p.m. at the JMU Field Hockey Complex in Harrisonburg, Va. JMU is ranked No. 12 in the preseason poll and return six of 11 starters from a squad that advanced to its fifth-straight CAA Championship.
RU welcomes back five starters, 14 letterwinners and a highly-touted group of newcomers looking to improve on a 2-16 mark a season ago.
The Scarlet Knights continues their stand in the Commonwealth on Sunday, Aug. 29, meeting the College of William & Mary at 11:30 a.m. at the JMU Field Hockey Complex.
“I am very excited to get the season started on Friday against a ranked opponent in James Madison,” said head coach Liz Tchou, beginning her eighth season this fall. “Our leadership is based on motivation. The upperclassman have done a great job in the preseason of motivating their younger teammates and showing them how we can be better as a team through cohesion.”
