Rutgers Volleyball Drops Season Opener at Long Beach State

LONG BEACH, Calif. (August 27, 2010) – The Rutgers volleyball team dropped its season opener against Long Beach State, 3-0, in the first match of the Long Beach State Baden Classic at the Walter Pyramid.
The 49ers (1-0) posted scores of 25-7, 25-10 and 25-9 to knock off the Scarlet Knights (0-1).
The Scarlet Knights were led by sophomore Stephanie Zielinski (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.) who recorded a near double-double with a team-leading 13 assists and nine digs. The RU offense was paced by senior Caitlin Saxton (Encinitas, Calif.) who notched four kills and sophomore Kylie Orr (Kettering, Ohio) who had two service aces.
Rutgers returns to action tomorrow when it faces UNLV (3 p.m. EST) and Sacred Heart (7:30 p.m. EST) to close out the Baden Classic.
