DURHAM. N.H. (September 17, 2010) – In its first matchup of the Holly Young Invitational, the Rutgers volleyball team fell to Sacred Heart, 3-1. Senior Caitlin Saxton (Encinitas, Calif.) led the way for RU, recording her fifth consecutive double-double (10 kills, 14 digs).
The Scarlet Knights got out to a quick lead grabbing the first set, 25-23 behind strong play from Saxton and junior Hannah Curtis (Wasilla, Alaska).
The Pioneers rebounded taking the second set, 25-19, setting up a crucial third set. In the third, the teams played back and forth until SHU prevailed, 26-24, on a service ace.
Sacred Heart carried the momentum gained in the third set and downed the Scarlet Knights in the fourth, 25-17, to take the match.
Rutgers returns to action tomorrow when they close out the Holly Young Invitational with matchups with Dartmouth (10 a.m.) and New Hampshire (7 p.m.).
