
Rutgers Volleyball Downs New Hampshire

DURHAM. N.H. (September 18, 2010) – In its final matchup of the Holly Young Invitational, the Rutgers volleyball team (7-6) downed New Hampshire (4-9), 3-0. Rutgers was led by junior Hannah Curtis (Wasilla, Alaska) who took home all-tournament honors for her strong play over the weekend.
The first set saw Rutgers jump out to an early 12-6 lead but the home Wildcats responded with a 6-0 run of their own to even the score at 12. UNH kept their momentum capitalizing on another 5-0 run to push its lead to 21-16 but RU responded with a 5-0 run of their own to knot the score at 21 all. From there, the teams played back and forth volleyball until Rutgers closed out the set, 26-24 on a New Hampshire attacking error.
In the second, RU got out to a quick start taking an early 11-7 lead. From there, RU used a balanced offensive attack to cruise to a 25-20 set victory.
Rutgers again climbed out to an early lead in the third set, 5-2. The Wildcats responded going on a 6-1 run of their own to take a slight lead. From there, the two squads exchanged leads throughout the remainder of the set until RU closed out the set and match, 25-23, on a kill by Kylie Orr (Kettering, Ohio).
Rutgers returns to action next weekend as it opens BIG EAST play with road matchups with Cincinnati and Louisville.
