Providence, R.I. (Sept. 27, 2010) – Rutgers women’s soccer goalkeeper Samantha Perretty (Parkland, Fla.) was named BIG EAST Rookie of the Week, the conference announced Monday. The honor comes after the netminder earned her first two career starts over the weekend, notching a shutout win over No. 19 Georgetown on Friday.
“It felt great to get my first starts with the team,” said Perretty. “I have been working hard for a long time to get this moment. All the players and coaches are great and have been very supportive – especially the other keepers and defenders. The experience was unforgettable and I am just happy I was given the opportunity to start.”
Perretty totaled seven saves and played 180 minutes in a 1-1 weekend for the Scarlet Knights. The Parkland, Fla. native recorded three saves in the clean-sheet win over No. 19 Georgetown on Sept. 24 and grabbed four saves in a 1-0 loss at Villanova on Sept. 26.
Perretty and the Scarlet Knights take on BIG EAST American Division foes Connecticut and Providence this weekend at Yurcak Field. RU and UConn face off at 7 p.m. Friday night with PC visiting Piscataway Sunday at 1 p.m.
