
Rutgers Men's Soccer Hosts Syracuse Wednesday Night

PISCATAWAY, N.J. (October 18, 2011) – Rutgers men’s soccer (7-5-1, 4-1-0 BIG EAST) will face BIG EAST Red Division opponent Syracuse (2-9-1, 0-4-1 BIG EAST) on Wednesday, Oct. 19 at 7 p.m. at Yurcak Field.
The Scarlet Knights are currently second in the Red Division standings following a 1-0 road win at DePaul last Saturday. With the victory, the Scarlet Knights extend their win streak to three games. Senior forward Ibrahim Kamara (North Brunswick, N.J.) scored the game-winning goal in the ninth minute against the Blue Demons, his second game-winning goal of the season. RU maintained the lead and captured the team’s first shutout of the season.
Rutgers senior midfielder Bryant Knibbs (Pine Bush, N.Y.) was selected to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll, the league announced Monday. Knibbs scored two goals to lead the Scarlet Knights to a come-from-behind victory against Villanova last Wednesday.
Freshman forward Juan Pablo Correa (Montville, N.J.) paces the squad with 13 points on four goals and a team-best five assists, while sophomore Kene Eze (Sayreville, N.J.) has a team-leading five goals and two assists (12 points).
In goal, junior Kevin McMullen (Blackwood, N.J.) has started the previous 10 games for the Scarlet Knights, posting a 6-4-1 record. He has a 1.44 goals against average with 31 saves, a .646 saves percentage and one shutout.
Wednesday marks the 18th meeting between the two teams with Rutgers leading the series at 9-7-1. RU and SU split the previous two matchups with the Scarlet Knights earning a 3-0 victory on the road last season, while Syracuse defeated Rutgers 3-0 at Yurcak Field in 2009.
Syracuse senior Nick Roydhouse leads the team with nine points on three goals and three assists. Junior Louis Clark is second on the squad with eight points on four goals. The Orange are coming off a 2-1 loss at St. John’s.
