PISCATAWAY, N.J. (November 1, 2011) - Rutgers men's soccer redshirt junior Kevin McMullen (Blackwood, N.J.) was named the BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week, the league announced Tuesday. McMullen was also selected to the College Soccer News National Team of the Week following his performance in the Scarlet Knights final two regular-season games.
McMullen posted back-to-back shutouts against a pair of ranked opponents as Rutgers earned a 1-0 win over No. 11 St. John's and a scoreless draw against No. 5 USF to close out the regular season.
McMullen posted a career-high 10 saves against the Red Storm as the Scarlet Knights scored the game-winning goal in the 104th minute. He followed that outing with four saves against the Bulls for his third shutout of the season.
The Scarlet Knights are currently on a seven-game unbeaten streak. RU is poised to make its 13th appearance in the BIG EAST Championship, earning a bye as the No. 2 seed to the quarterfinals on Sunday, Nov. 6 at 1 p.m. at Yurcak Field. Rutgers will face the winner of the first round match-up between DePaul and Connecticut.
