
Rutgers Men's Soccer Faces Connecticut In BIG EAST Championship

PISCATAWAY, N.J. (November 4, 2011) - Rutgers men's soccer (9-5-3, 6-1-2-BIG EAST), the second seed in the Red Division, will face the No. 3 seed in the Blue Division Connecticut (15-2-2, 5-2-2 BIG EAST) in the BIG EAST Championship Quarterfinals on Sunday at 1 p.m. at Yurcak Field. The match will be streamed live on RVision, presented by AT&T.
Sunday marks the 23rd meeting between the two teams, with the Scarlet Knights leading the all-time series at 11-10-1. The Scarlet Knights and the Huskies have split the last two matchups, with Rutgers taking the most recent game, 2-1, in 2009. The two teams have faced off in the BIG EAST Tournament twice with the Huskies winning both matchups.
Rutgers will make its 13th appearance in the BIG EAST Tournament. RU is 11-9-4 in conference tournament games, including an 8-2-1 mark in the quarterfinals.
RU is coming off a scoreless tie against No. 5 USF on Monday. The game was played at Lubetkin Stadium on the NJIT campus due to the snow covering at Yurcak Field. Junior goalkeeper Kevin McMullen (Blackwood, N.J.) made four saves in the game, including two in overtime, en route to his second-straight shutout and third of the season.
McMullen, who has started the last 15 games in goal for the Scarlet Knights, was named the BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week and selected to the CollegeSoccerNews.com National Team of the Week after his efforts in games against USF and No. 11 St. John's. He has a 1.16 goals against average, 53 saves and a .736 save percentage.
Freshman forward Juan Pablo Correa (Montville, N.J.) leads the team with 15 points on five goals and a team-best five assists, while sophomore Kene Eze (Sayreville, N.J.) has 13 points on five goals and three assists.
The Huskies defeated No. 6 seed DePaul, 4-0, in their first round match of the BIG EAST Tournament. Junior forward Carlos Alvarez had two goals and an assist in the victory.
Sophomore Mamadou Doudou Diouf leads the Huskies in points with 22 on 10 goals and two assists. Alvarez is second with 15 points (five goals and five assists). Freshman goalkeeper Blake Andre has posted a 0.30 goals against average this season, making 67 saves and earning 13 shutouts.
