Rutgers Places Sykes on BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll

PISCATAWAY, N.J. (December 19, 2011) - Rutgers women's basketball senior forward April Sykes (Starkville, Miss.) was named to BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll - the third-straight honor for the Scarlet Knights - as announced by the conference office on Monday.
Sykes ignited the Rutgers offense last week, helping RU to a 1-1 week, including a 62-29 victory against Iona. The senior averaged 22.5 points per game in the two matchups and recorded the best game of her career at the RAC versus No. 6 Tennessee, pouring in 27 points and pulling down seven boards in 38 minutes of action. Sykes finished the first half against the Lady Vols with a team-high 13 points on 6-12 shooting from the floor and logged a full 20 minutes of action to help bring RU back within five at the break, before eventually falling short, 67-61.
Sykes returned on Sunday against Iona with a game-high 18 points and grabbed five rebounds in 29 minutes of play.
Rutgers takes a break over the holiday and returns to action on Dec. 30 at 7 p.m. versus George Washington.
