
Rutgers Tennis Drops Fairleigh Dickinson, 7-0

Manasquan, N.J. (Feb. 11, 2011) – Rutgers tennis (3-1) downed Fairleigh Dickinson (2-2) by a score of 7-0 Friday at the Atlantic Club in Manasquan, N.J. The Scarlet Knights won all six singles matches and two of the three doubles bouts to clinch the doubles point. RU has won three-straight matches.
“We were pleasantly surprised with the decisive nature of this victory as Fairleigh Dickinson will clearly be competing for their conference championship to get into the NCAA Tournament,” said head coach Ben Bucca. “We are playing strong, confident tennis - which is what we will need going into our match with Columbia University tomorrow.”
Senior Amy Zhang (Plano, Texas) led the Scarlet Knights at No. 1 singles, downing Elmine Botes, 6-2, 6-0. Zhang paired up with junior Jennifer Holzberg (Easton, Conn.) to take down Botes and Irina Dementyeva by a score of 8-2.
Holzberg defeated Julia Prantl at the No. 2 spot (6-1, 6-2). Freshman Vanessa Petrini (Stamford, Conn.) won her fourth-straight match at No. 6 singles, sweeping Emily Napier, 6-1, 6-0.
The Scarlet Knights travel to Columbia, N.Y. tomorrow for a 1 p.m. match against Columbia.
