
Rutgers Tennis Edged by Columbia, 4-3

New York, N.Y. (Feb. 12, 2011) – The Rutgers tennis team (3-2) put together a late rally, but was unable to top Columbia (5-0) Saturday in New York, falling 4-3. The Scarlet Knights won three of six singles matches, but failed to earn a doubles point.
Freshman Vanessa Petrini (Stamford, Conn.) won her fifth-straight match at No. 6 singles, coming back against Ioana Alecsiu of Colgate to win 1-6, 6-4, 7-5. The rookie is the lone Scarlet Knight to win all six of her matches this season.
At No. 2 singles, junior Jennifer Holzberg (Easton, Conn.) downed Bianca Sanon by a score of 6-4, 6-4. Freshman Stefania Balasa (East Brunswick, N.J.) scored a point for RU, taking down Katarina Kovacevic (7-5 (10-4), 6-3) at No. 5 singles.
The Scarlet Knights return home to host Buffalo Friday, Feb. 18 at the Atlantic Club in Manasquan, N.J. The match will begin at 1 p.m.
