PISCATAWAY, N.J. (Sept. 13, 2011) – The Rutgers women’s soccer team (5-2) is receiving votes in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Poll, the organization announced Tuesday.
Rutgers defeated Yale, 1-0, and Dartmouth, 1-0 in overtime, over the weekend to earn three votes from the coaches. RU has just two losses this season – both to top-10 opponents – and defeated RV/21 Loyola Marymount in Los Angeles. Sophomore Jonelle Filigno (Mississauga, ON, Canada) paces the Scarlet Knights with five goals and 11 points in 2011.
This is the first time since Sept. 14, 2010 that the Scarlet Knights have appeared in the NSCAA Poll. Rutgers reached its highest ranking in program history in 2009, appearing at the No. 9 spot for two-straight weeks.
The Scarlet Knights open up BIG EAST play Friday, Sept. 16 against Villanova. Kickoff is set for approximately 7:30 p.m. on Yurcak Field after the men’s squad takes on Iona at 5 p.m.
