
Rutgers Volleyball Downed by Pitt

PITTSBURGH, Pa. (September 25, 2011) – Rutgers University volleyball fell to Pittsburgh, 3-0, in BIG EAST action at the Fitzgerald Field House on Sunday afternoon. The Scarlet Knights fall to 6-12 on the season and 0-2 in conference play.
RU was never able to get any momentum going this day, as Pitt (11-5, 1-1 BIG EAST) came out aggressive and hit at a .268 clip for the match. The Panthers won by set scores of 25-14, 25-16 and 25-9.
Junior setter Stephanie Zielinski (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) led Rutgers with 14 assists and 12 digs for her team-leading eighth double-double of the season.
Pittsburgh extended its lead in the all-time series, 26-6, as the Panthers have won the last seven meetings.
The Scarlet Knights will next travel to Tampa, Fla. for a match at USF on Saturday, Oct. 1 at Noon. It will be the sixth consecutive match for RU away from the College Ave Gym.
