Rutgers Football's Beauharnais Tabbed as Butkus Semifinalist

PISCATAWAY, N.J. (Oct. 22, 2012) - Rutgers senior linebacker Steve Beauharnais (Saddle Brook, N.J.) was one of 12 linebackers nationally selected as a 2012 Butkus Award semifinalist, the organization announced Monday. The award annually recognizes the nation's best college, professional and high school linebackers.
One of the senior leaders of Rutgers' stout defense, Beauharnais has compiled 38 tackles, including 3.0 tackles-for-loss and 0.5 sacks. He has additionally recorded one fumble recovery and two quarterback hurries. He was a Preseason All-BIG EAST First and Second Team selection by Phil Steele and Athlon, respectively.
Beauharnais has started 35 consecutive games at linebacker for the Scarlet Knights and has appeared in every game of his Rutgers career. He has recorded 230 tackles in his career, including 32.0 tackles-for-loss and 12.0 sacks.
Instituted in 1985, The Butkus Award is one of the elite individual honors in college football. An independent Butkus Award Selection Committee, headed by Pro Football Weekly's Hub Arkush and comprised of 51 experts including professional, college and high school scouts and prominent sports journalists, will conduct the selection process.
