Former RUMLAX Player Mangan Honored at Homecoming

PISCATAWAY, N.J. (Nov. 1, 2012) - Former Rutgers men’s lacrosse midfielder Will Mangan was back on campus to be honored with the Werblin Award during halftime of Rutgers football's Homecoming game vs. Kent State on Oct. 27.

The David A. “Sonny” Werblin Award is given to a male or female student-athlete who, either as an individual or as a member of a team, received national recognition or won a national championship during the previous school year.

The 2012 BIG EAST Midfielder of the Year, Mangan completed one of the most decorated seasons in Rutgers men’s lacrosse history, earning United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) All-America Honorable Mention and Scholar All-America, as well as BIG EAST First Team recognition. He finished his senior season with 40 points from 30 goals and 10 assists, as well as 46 ground balls.

Mangan was picked up by Major League Lacrosse’s Long Island Lizards at the conclusion of his Rutgers career. With his senior season concluded, he additionally participated in the USILA/LaxWorld North-South Classic on May 25, recording one goal and one assist. As a professional lacrosse rookie player for the Lizards in 2012, Mangan totaled 11 points from eight goals and three assists, along with nine ground balls.
