
Rutgers Women's Basketball Earns Bid To 2012 NCAA Championship

PISCATAWAY, N.J. (March 12, 2012) - Rutgers women's basketball earned its 10th-straight tournament bid with its selection as the No. 6 seed in the Kingston Region of the 2012 NCAA Women's Basketball Championship. The Scarlet Knights will face No. 11 seed Gonzaga on Saturday, March 17, at 4:15 p.m. ET at McCarthey Arena in Spokane, Wash.
The Scarlet Knights will make their 23rd NCAA Tournament appearance; including 14th under head coach C. Vivian Stringer.
Rutgers, 35-22 all-time in the NCAA Tournament, has won six of its past seven first-round appearances. The Scarlet Knights are 11-2 in first round games under Stringer. RU has made eight trips to the Tournament Regional and a pair of Final Four runs, including the National Championship
game in 2007.
Rutgers and Gonzaga will meet for the first time in school history. The Bulldogs finished the regular season 26-5 overall and 14-2 in West Coast Conference action. Gonzaga fell in the WCC Tournament title game to BYU. The Zags are led by three double-digit scorers - Kayla Standish, Katelan Redmon and Haiden Palmer. Standish is averaging a team-leading 15.8 points and 7.7 rebounds per game, followed by Redmon with 13.7 points per contest and Palmer with a 12.4 clip.
